Huchuy Qosqo

DURATION: 2 Days / 1 Night
TYPE OF TRIP: Trekking
PERIOD: Whole year, recommended April - November
LANGUAGES: English, Spanish

This archeological complex is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Valley of Urubamba. The ruins are impressive, although the conservation of the site is lower than those in Ollantaytambo and Pisac, because they are older. Huchuy Qosqo has a peculiar architecture: the buildings have been built on a foundation of fine polished stone finished with plaster of clay and the upper floors are made of adobe.

Pick up at 7:30 a.m. and transfer to Tambomachay (3800m), located in the archaeological park of Sacsayhuaman and comprises a source intended for ceremonial worship of water. The walk starts in this place and will lead through the areas of the Sicllaccasa Puna pass (4020m), from which you descend a path that leads to Ccauca ravine, where there we will observe archaeological formations and local species as tarwi and cactus in quantity. We proceed to the second step of Queullococha (4185m) from where we observe the lake and the snowy Veronica, Pitusiray, Chicon and San Juan. We will pass through the lagoon Queullococha, where we will see distinguished geese, ducks and small fish, and then climb to the third step of Challu Challu (4170m), from which you can see the plains of Chinchero and Qoricocha Piuray. From there climb the fourth step of Rumicruz (4230m) with panoramic views of the lagoon Qoricocha and mountain peaks of the Vilcanota. Here we will have lunch and get some rest. After lunch depart to the Inca Quarry (4220m), which was the place of extraction of stone, for the construction of Huchuy Qosqo. Decline to proceed to the community of Pucamarca(4010m), where we will arrive in the afternoon and stay for the night.

Departure at about 08.00 a.m. descending into the space of Punku León, where there are remains of a bridge and a Inca path. In the canyon we observe the geological formations with majestic rocks from where we descend towards Huchuy Qosqo (3600m), where we arrive about midday. Huchuy Qosqo is an Inca archaeological complex with imposing ceremonial architecture, from where we will enjoy a panoramic view of the Sacred Valley, the Vilcanota River and the mountain peaks. We will take a guided tour to all sectors of the assembly until lunchtime and in the evening hours we continue to Lamay (3000m), the Sacred Valley town dedicated to agriculture and livestock. In Lamay we visit the thermal baths where you can enjoy a break and a nice bath in its healing waters. After this our private bus takes us back to Cusco. Estimated arrival in the evening.
